287 Entertainment is a full-service artist and talent management company based in Nashville, TN. The company was founded in 2016 by CEO Jake LaGrone.
In 1989, Jake took off on Highway 287 to chase his dream in the music industry. After a few connections and a couple of breaks, Jake started in the entertainment business as road manager for Lorrie Morgan in mid August 1989 when he arrived in Nashville. From there, he had the opportunity to work with some of the largest acts in entertainment; Reba, Rhett Akins, Alan Jackson, Rascal Flatts, and Jason Aldean.
After years in the industry, LaGrone saw the evolution of the industry and the move towards digital media. However, a few of the lessons he learned in those early days have never changed; 1) The talent always matters. Whether it’s the music, or magic, or act, the talent is still the most important. 3 minutes of a great song, or one great trick can change everything. A great song endures for decades, and a great escape from Houdini lasts for generations. 2) A career is made over time. Today, TV and YouTube appear to make instant stars, but a brand and career are made over time. 3) Never burn a bridge. Help everyone out along the way. The world is a very small place.
These principles are part of the values that make 287 Entertainment special.
Over the last decade, there’s been a major shift in power and responsibility in the entertainment industry. The empowerment that has come with internet and social media have all but disrupted traditional value chains, impacting both the Fan, and the Entertainer.
“Today’s Fans” are not the ones like Jake on Highway 287 in 1989. “Today’s Fans” don’t get their music or entertainment at a store. They “discover” through friends, and online sources. They consume in a variety of methods, including on-demand. They expect an empowered and personalized experience, just like the one they enjoy on Netflix, Amazon, and Uber. It’s a different ballgame.
For the Entertainer, the demands from this shift are overwhelming. Not only are they required to perfect their craft, they’re required to build their audience, create unique content, all while communicating with their audience in new and creative ways. The days of depending on a label and studio to build your brand and do the “heavy lifting” are over. To break out, Today’s Entertainer must have a team that knows how to elevate their brand above the “noise” in the digital world, to become one of the preferred entertainment options for the audience.
Connecting Today’s Fan to the Entertainer is our Mission and what drives us at 287. Our professional and experienced team is committed to making this connection while using technology, new brand strategies, and new distribution strategies to create a career. We understand and embrace the needs of Today’s Entertainer with creativity and innovation, and are committed to building our talent.
